Just What Do You People Think You're Doing Here?
That, actually, is an excellent
question!
We are fans of SF who love not only the genre, but everything else about it; the conventions, the history, the authors, the trivia ...
It ocurred to us some time ago, though, that the past of SF shaped our conception of what the future might look like. We read the greats and saw the movies (both the good ones and the bad ones) and let the optimism and anticipation rule our imaginations.
Even though the future didn't turn out the way we thought it would (we're still waiting for our flying cars too) we find that the enthusiasm and hope for the future that SF instills stays with us. Moreover, even in the darkest SF there's the power to mesmerise and inspire, to wow and wonder.
And that's what we're all about. When we look at the future through the lens of the past—when we look at what 2001:A Space Odyssey guessed the actual year 2001 might have looked like or the way we thought alien invasion might have been when we first saw the George Pal version of The War Of The Worlds on TV that first time—we feel as though we learn something ineffable but hopeful about ourselves.
SF has always been the literature of what might be. And that's what makes it cool and worth celebrating. And in our clubhouse, you'll find ways to find what fires you up—be it movies, books, authors, games, fondly -remembered memorabilia—the possiblities are as endless as SF itself. Let us be your launching pad to something new or something fondly remembered.
Who Is That Robotic Fellow?
That is George, our mascot. He's the spirit of the Science Fiction Museum, and they way he presents SF to you is the way his spirit of adventure will be always by your side as you come along with us on your journey. George is here to serve, as is everyone behind the SFM.
